After a studio album and two live DVDs/albums with Lisa Gerrard, March 2010 marked the time
to go "pure" Klaus Schulze again. At the invitation of his devoted Japanese fan, Mr. Gen Fujita,
Schulze and his crew traveled to Tokyo to perform his first strictly solo concerts since November
2003! The concerts in Tokyo were remarkable in several respects: First, the Japanese crew
meticulously recreated Klaus's legendary and extraordinary equipment setup—exactly as it is
known from his European concerts. Considering that this equipment comprises many rare
instruments and devices, this was a magnificent feat by their Japanese colleagues. Second, the
concert itself held a few surprises: It marked the first time Klaus Schulze performed his classic
"Crystal Lake" (originally released in 1977 on the album *Mirage*) in a newly modulated form—
presented here as "The Crystal Returns." No less astonishing was the fact that Klaus picked up
an electric guitar (on the track "Sequencers Are Beautiful")—naturally, in his own inimitable and
unconventional style. All in all, these were breathtaking concerts that—to borrow a title from
Klaus himself—united "Tradition and Vision": Fans will love the familiar sequencer sounds just
as much as the new elements. And, of course, the DVD perfectly captures the essence of these
intense and atmospheric performances... *Big In Japan* was previously released in Japan as a
box set, limited to 500 copies. This European edition features a slight modification: The track
"Sequencers Are Beautiful" (which appeared only on the DVD in the Japanese edition) is
included here as the second track on the first CD. Complete with elegant new packaging, these
historic moments are now available to every Klaus Schulze fan!
